MARSHFIELD, Mo. –Regular septic system care is like maintaining a car or tractor--a little preventive maintenance can save a lot in repairs.
“Lack of maintenance, combined with poor site location, is the main reason septic systems fail,” said Bob Schultheis, University of Missouri Extension natural resource engineering specialist. “Often no maintenance is done until the toilets don’t flush or sinks won’t drain.”

High water table has town counting flushes
Overland flooding is a bringing lots of trouble for one small North Dakota township. A long snow melt in McLeod in Ransom County is saturating grounds and putting pressure on people's septic systems. The water table is high to begin with, and water trickles through and upward when the ground is saturated. That kind of pressure is causing people to conserve water, even skip showers.
